William Shafer Of Waukon Dies

Waukon -- William F. Shafer, 72, prominent Waukon attorney, died Saturday at a Rochester, Minnesota hospital.

Born November 26, 1886, [in Ludlow Twp.] near Waukon, [to August and Louisa Grotegut Schafer], he was married to Ella Sherman April 20, 1922. He was a self-taught lawyer, being admitted to the bar in 1929.

Active in the Republican party, he had served as Allamakee county clerk of court, record and county attorney.

Services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Reformed church.
