Died. At his home in Postville, on Sept 2nd, 1892, after a lingering illness from a complication of diseases, Edward Staadt, aged 70 years 1 month and 26 days. He was born in Traer, in the Rhine Province, Prussia, July 6th, 1822. He came to America in 1854, since which time he has resided in Post twp., until last spring on the farm, since then having resided in town. Feb 9th, 1860, Mr. Staadt was married to Hainey Mitchell, and to them four children were born, three of whom are still living. After the death of his first wife he married her sister, Mrs. Mary Tuller, in 1881. [remainder cut off]

Edward Staadt came to America, in 1853, joining his brother, Anton Staadt, at Sheyboygan, Wisconsin. In 1854, the two brothers moved to Post Township, Postville, Iowa where they purchased farm land in the south part of Post Township. In 1860, Edward sold his share to Anton, and purchased his own land about 5 miles northeast of Postville which was in the area of the West Grove Country School in Post Township. In 1860, Edward married Johanna “Hannah” Michels.

When the Staadts received word that their daughter and granddaughter in Kansas had contracted diptheria, Hannah immediately went to Kansas to care for them. The daughter died several days before Hannah, who had contracted the disease also. The granddaughter, Liza Woche, survived. As an adult, she married Sherm Bishop and they farmed near Atlantic, Iowa.

Ten months after Hannah died of diptheria, Edward married Hannah's sister, Mary (Michels) Tuller. Mary had been a widow since 1876.

Edward and Johanna Staadt became the parents of 4 children:

1. Charlotte Staadt, b. ca 1861, married -1879 Post Twp. Postville, Iowa, Allamakee County to Carl Woche; d. ca 18 July 1883 Republic County, Kansas of diptheria burial Washington Cemetery in Republic County, Kansas

2. John Frederick Staadt, b. 1 October 1864 Post Township Postville, Iowa Allamakee County, Iowa, d. 19 January 1956 Ottawa, Kansas, burial – Highland Cemetery Ottawa, Kansas; married – 26 September 1892 Postville, Iowa to Ida Jane Webb, b. 27 November 1872 Webb farm Post twp, Postville, Iowa Allamakee County, Iowa, d. 19 November 1948 Ottawa, Kansas. Burial Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas

3. Edward Staadt, b. ca 1869. He and his brother Fred moved to Paoli, Kansas in 1895. Edward was living in Los Angeles, California in 1959. His death date and family information is unknown.

4. Frederick “Fred” Staadt, b. 12 April 1874, d. 1 May 1959 Welda, Kansas. lst married – 1903 to Minnie Ackerly, who died in 1909 giving birth to their son, Homer Staadt. 2nd marriage – 5 November 1918 to Clara Nicholson
