Elmer John Zieman
Funeral services were held Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville for Elmer Zieman who passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester on February 14, 1957 following a short illness. The Rev. Charles E. Witt was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Postville Cemetery.
Mr. Zieman was serving on the town council and was a director of Postville State Bank.
Elmer John Zieman was born September 7, 1890 in Clayton county, the son of Albert Zieman and his wife, Anna Brandt Zieman. He passed away on February 14, 1957, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, where he had been a patient for less than a week.
He was baptized on February 6, 1891 and confirmed on March 27, 1904 in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville, and remained an active member of this Church all of his life.
He was united in marriage to Adaila Meyer on February 17, 1915 in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville. To this union were born four children, Leeone, Mrs. Irving Deering of Clermont; Lyle Zieman of Luana; Gretchen, Mrs. John Stuhr of Cedar Rapids, and Robert Hall, who died in infancy.
He was active in church and community life. He served as a member of the church council, finance committee, and pulpit committee of the church. He also served as president of the church council from 1945 to 1946. He showed his active interest in the growth and progress of the community by serving as a member of the Board of the Postville State Bank and as a member of the Postville Town council.
He spent all of his life in Postville and Clayton county. He moved to town from his home farm in 1941.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one child who died in infancy.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Leeone and Gretchen; one son, Lyle; two sisters, Estella, Mrs. Rudy Huebner of Postville and Clinda, Mrs. Elmer Weihe of Postville; one brother, Verni of Monona; 12 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
