Mass of Christian Burial Services were held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Church in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota for James Roy Burrett, age 71, who died Monday, October 9, 2017 at the VA Hospice Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota following a year long battle with lung cancer. Rev. Ralph Zimmerman officiated and burial was held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, Minnesota.

James "Jim" Roy Burrett was born August 15, 1946 in West Union, Iowa to Robert and Andree (Tatro) Burrett. Jim graduated from the Waukon High School, Waukon, Iowa in 1965. He proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1965-1967, serving 14 months in Vietnam. On April 11, 1970 he was united in marriage to Mary Hennen in Morris, Minnesota. Together they raised three children, Jeffrey James, Krista Kathryn, and Kara Elizabeth. Jim worked in construction as a carpenter until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed keeping busy with handy man work, fishing, playing cribbage, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. Jim was very hard working, thoughtful, loving, and kind. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

James Burrett is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary of St. Cloud; children, Jeffrey(Tammy Gehrke) also of St. Cloud, Krista (Jason) Rainer of Sauk Rapids, and Kara (Jeremy) Lupinek of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Gunnar, Skylar, and Lily Burrett, Kaleigh, Kaety, and Kaelin Rainer, and Spencer and Lauren Lupinek;
ten siblings, Mary (Gordy) Lubahn of Byron, Minnesota, Robbie (Brenda) Burrett of Waterville, Iowa, Pam (Kenny) Berding of Walker, Minnesota, Terry (Donald) Johnson of Waukon,Iowa, Don Burrett of Atlanta, Georgia, Nancy (Gary) Welper of Laramie, Wyoming, Dawn Blocker and special friend Larry Feaker of LaPorte City, Iowa, Penny (Dave) Wheeler of Postville, Iowa, Keith (Margaret) Burrett and Wayne Burrett, both of Waukon, Iowa. In addition, Jim is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Ray and Kathleen Hennen, and a brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Blocker. The Burrett family was most appreciative of the VA Medical Center for their care and kindness given to Jim and his family during his illness.
