Thora Johnson
Funeral services for Thora Johnson were held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. in the Waterville Lutheran Church, Waterville, IA. Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Thora O. Johnson, daughter of Ole and Julia (Paulson) Storla, was born Feb. 13, 1897, in Paint Creek Township, Waterville, IA. She died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1988 in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, IA.
She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She attended the local rural schools near her home.
On Sept. 27, 1928 she married Bernhart Johnson at Waukon. The couple had one daughter, Joyce. They lived in Waterville all of their lives. Thora moved to Postville in Oct. 1977.
She was a member of the Waterville Lutheran Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bernhart, who died Nov. 16, 1957, a son-in-law, Don Snitker; 2 brothers, Olvin and Hartvig Storla, her twin sister, Sophia Gulrud and a sister, Helen Storla.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce and her husband, Dale Kuhse, Postville; 9 grandchildren, Barbara (Mrs. Sigurd Ness), Arlyn and Julie Snitker, Delora (Mrs. Monte Dundee), Nancy (Mrs. Dennis Turner), Lavonne (Mrs. Norman Pankow, Jr.), Steven, Russell, Laverne and Bruce Snitker; 14 great-grandchildren, Scott, Chad, Rebecca, and Brent Ness, Jill, Lisa and Paul Snitker, Stacy and John Dundee, Trent, Sara and Travis Turner and Jeremy and Nicki Pankow; 2 brothers, Clarence Storla, Postville and Ove Storla, Dubuque; 2 sisters, Olga Wendel, Postville and Pauline Johnson, Rochester, MN and several nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers: Arlyn Snitker, Steven Snitker, Ressell Snitker, Laverne Snitker, Bruce Snitker, Scott Ness, Chad Ness, Jeremy Pankow.
