Bernard L. King, 74, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, in Veterans Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. Serices: 1:30 p.m. Monday. Zion United Church of Christ, by the Rev. Richard Eick, Burial : Oakland Cemetery. Firends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; and a son Wayne of Minneapolis.

Bernard L. King, 74, of Waukon, died Fri., Sept. 8, 2000, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a sudden illness.
Funeral services were held Mon., Sept. 11, at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Bernard Lawrence King was born April 16, 1926, in Union City Township, rural Eitzen, MN. His parents were Charles and Ida (Welper) King. He was baptized at St. Luke's Church, Eitzen, and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church of Waukon. He attended Wheatland School in the Eitzen area. Prior to marriage, he farmed with his parents.

On Nov. 19, 1949, he married Arlene Hansmeier at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. He then worked as a butter maker at Meadowland Dairy, Waukon, before retiring in 1982. Bernard was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He enjoyed listening to music, traveling, reading and visiting with family and friends.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Ford. Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of Waukon; a son, Wayne, Minneapolis, MN; and a grandson, Andy King of Waukon.

Casketbearers were Henry Miene, Tom Wiemerslage, Sylvin Ashbacher, Robert J. Stock, Clint Miller and Dennis Miller. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
