Waukon, Ia - Victor Damon, 21, has been killed in action somewhere in the South Pacific area, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Damon, of Harpers Ferry, were informed Thursday afternoon by telegram from U.S. Marine Corps officers in Washington, D.C. Details of the internment and other matters were to come in a letter to follow, the telegram stated.

Mr. and Mrs. Damon recently received a letter, dated Nov. 15, from their son, in which he implied that he was in the South Pacific, but because of restrictions, could give no details.

The parents have two other sons, James and William, in the service.

Victor was born on June 5, 1922, in Harpers Ferry, and was a graduate of the high school there. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Dec. 15, 1942, and left home for service on the day after Christmas. He never had a leave since entering the armed forces.

He is survived by his parents; four brothers, Cletus and Leo, both of Harpers Ferry; James, in the Navy serving at Norfolk, Va., and William, who has just arrived home after completing boot training at Camp Farragut, Ida.; two sisters, Mrs. Owen Radloff, Volga City, and Mrs. Cecil Maiolfi, Los Angeles, Calif.; and two aunts, Mrs. John Hart and Miss Anna Clark, both of Waukon.

Harper's Ferry, Ia. - Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Damon have received the Purple Heart posthumously awarded to their son, Victor Damon, U.S. Marine who was killed in action in the South Pacific in December. Another son, James, seaman 2-c, has been transferred from Norfolk, Va., to a station in Maryland.
