Mrs. M. U. Chesire of Marshalltown, mother of Mrs. R. J. Reed of State Center, passed away Tuesday evening, January 22nd at Mercy hospital following a six weeks illness.

Requiem High Mass was held Friday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church and burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Chesire was prominent in women's club work and church affairs. She was a member of Alter and Rosary Society, the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, the 20th Century club, Entre Nous and other organizations in addition to serving on the library board for 20 years.

She was born at Lansing, Ia., the daughter of N. A. and Annie Marie Jacobson Nelson. She graduated from Winona, Minn., Teacher College and taught school in Marshalltown prior to her marriage to Dr. M. U. Chesire in Chicago, Ill., on October 22, 1907. Dr. Chesire passed away in 1932.

She is survived by her daughter, Louise (Mrs. R. J. Reed) and a son, Matthew W. Chesire of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and a brother, L. A. Nelson of Chicago, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Robert, in 1914; seven sisters and two brothers.
