Fred F. Breeser, 51, passed away Friday afternoon, May 9, in Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, after an illness of five weeks.

He was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Houston County, Minn., a son of Carl and Laura (Pottratz) Breeser, and spent all his life in the New Albin area.

On Sept. 11, 1954, he was married at Caledonia, Minn., to Norma Wiemerslage. He was employed in road construction until the time of his illness.

Mr. Breeser was inducted into the U.S. Army on may 19, 1941. He was a Heavy Mortar Crewman during World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy, where he was awarded four Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Unit Badge, five Overseas Bars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged on Aug. 13, 1945.

Left to mourn the untimely death of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother are his wife; three children, Mrs. Gerald (Karen) Darling and Millard Vickery of New Albin, and Susan at home; seven grandchildren; his parents; three brothers, Walter of New Albin, Edward of Decorah, and Robert of Caledonia; and one sister, Ethel Thomas of New Albin.

Military funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin. Rev. Clyde Lee officiated. Burial was in Wheatland Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the construction crew he worked with: Levi Sweat, Frank Holland, Floyd Waters, Richard Klotzbach, Emmet Neirely and Edward Jordan.
