Mrs. Hazel Gertrude Higgins died at St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse, WI, Tuesday, May 16, following major surgery. She was born May 18, 1884, in Allamakee County, to the late Joseph and Lottie (Palmer) Haberkern.

She was united in marriage to John Higgins, New Albin, at St. James Church, La Crosse, June 9, 1909. The deceased lived here all her life until a few years ago when she moved to La Crosse.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Belva) Hickey of Sumner; one son, Merlin of La Crosse; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, parents, and one brother, Palmer Haberkern preceded her in death.

She belonged to the Royal Neighbors, Nokomis Grandmother's Club, Foresters and The Altar Society.

Funeral services were held on Thursday morning at 0:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church, La Crosse. Interment was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin. Father Edgar Kolfenbach, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, New Albin, officiated at the graveside.

Pallbearers were Almer Groth, Walter Langofer, Clarence Pinker, Harold Dummer, Loren Wehrenberg and Gordon Schermerhorn.

Relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Higgins, La Crosse; the former's daughter, Patricia, Minneapolis, MN; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hickey and son David, Sumner; Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Hickey, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Andy Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gran, and Mrs. Annie Gran, Caledonia, MN; Emmett Twite, Reno, MN; and Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Meyer, Mrs. Peter W. Hartley, and the Lady Foresters, New Albin.
