Leo J. Heiderscheit, 72, died peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 1993, in La Crosse, WI, at the home of his daughter. In his death, Leo happily rejoins his wife Catherine (Kay) Leytem, who died Aug. 9, 1977.

Leo was born in Holy Cross, IA, on Nov. 7, 1920, one of 15 children of John and Florence Heiderscheit. In 1943 Leo and Kay moved to New Albin, where he owned and operated New Albin Auto Sales and Prairie Auto Sales in Prairie du Chien, WI, for over 40 years. Leo was a trustee of St. Joseph's Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by six children and fifteen grandchildren: Tom and Phyllis (Jon, Ted, David and Joe) of Durham, N.C.; Jerry and Mary Anne (Christy and Jeff) of Ogden, UT; Charles and Paula (Sarah and Bryan) of La Crosse; Bob and Mary Beth (Tom, Jim and Anne) of Onalaska, WI; Jean Herbeck (Mary and Jim) of Columbus, OH; and Kathy and Paul Schams (Peter and Joe) of La Crosse.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Frank, Charles and Harold; and one sister, Julie Simon. Leo is survived by two brothers, John of Dubuque, and Leonard of New Albin; and eight sisters, Agnes Klass, Clara Dolter, Dorothy Crawford, Jeannette Dunne, Rosemary Winter and Virginia Saylor, of Dubuque; Hazel Schend of Kenosha, WI; and Norma Wagner of Asbury, IA.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin. Burial in church cemetery. Visitation will be in New Albin Funeral Chapel 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 19, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. The family requests memorials be given to La Crosse Visiting Nurses Community Hospice Program, La Crosse, which enabled dad to die in comfort with quiet dignity and in the presence of his children and grandchildren.

Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, is in charge of arrangements.
