Funeral services for Robert Dale Kerr were held Thurs., Dec. 28, 2 p.m. at the Illyria Community Church, rural Elgin. Rev. Richard Kretzschmar officiated. Muehlethaler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born May 26, 1919 in rural Elgin. His parents were William and Anna (Gruver) Kerr. After an extended illness he died Monday evening. Dec. 25, 1989 at the Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union. He was 70 years old.

He was raised and educated in the area attending local schools. On October 7, 1939 he married Grace Peters at Brainard, IA. The couple had 6 children. They farmed near Elgin during which time Robert raised and showed Shorthorn cattle. They retired in 1979 since which time they have resided in a number of locations, most recently being at the Homestead Apartments in Elgin.

Survivors include his wife Grace; 2 sons, Robert, Jr., Postville and Wm., Clermont; 4 daughters, Karolyn Moritz, West Union, Mrs. Robert (Colleen) Vargason, Tiffin, IA, Lois Wickett, Des Moines and Mrs. Harlo (Delores) Meyer, Sac City; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Nona) Torson, Mrs. Cleve (Ferne) Bennet, and Leone Shaffer, all of Elgin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Thomas, James and Clifton; 1 sister, Mrs. Reuben (June) Light and 3 great-grandsons.

Casket bearers: Clint Vargason, Kerrin Meyer, Kevin Kerr, Scott Vargason, Jason Meyer, Dennis Moritz, Jr., William Kerr, Jr., Robert Meyer, Jr., Kim Kerr, Stacy Murphy.
