Waukon- Services for Gilbert Smedsrud, 87, of Waukon, who died late Monday night at his home after a long illness, have been tentatively set for Thursday afternoon from the Bakke and Hanson funeral home to the Old West Paint Creek church. The Rev. E. O. Baalson will officiate. Burial will be in West Paint Creek cemetery.

Smedsrud was born June 27, 1863 in Norway, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Smedsrud. His family moved to the United States and settled in Allamakee county when he was 14 years of age. He farmed in Jefferson township for many years.

Surviving are his wife, the former Hannah Hanson; six daughters, Mrs. Otto Geuder and Mrs. Robert Keatley, of Waukon, Mrs. Melvin Kolsrud, of Paint Creek township, Mrs. Alfred Anderson and Mrs. Raymond Odegaard, of near Elon; three sons, Alfred and Carl, of Waukon, and Melvin, of Elon, and 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
