DELL MERRIAU DIED SUNDAY

N. A. (Dell) Merriau, 85 passed away at the Riverview hospital, Greene, Sunday afternoon July 3. He had been taken there a week ago when he suffered a broken shoulder due to a fall at his home. His health had been failing for the last few years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, at 2:00 O'clock in the First Methodist church with Rev. Charles Kimbrell officiating. Burial took place in the Rose Hill cemetery

Norman Adelbert Merriau was born in Allamakee County, near Waukon, Iowa September 6 1863. He spent his childhood near Waukon and came with his parents, Amiable and Adelia Merriau to Floyd County in 1882. On Thanksgiving Day of 1888 he was united in marriage to Ida Elizabeth Bowman. They spent several years on a farm. In 1908 they retired to Greene, which with the exception of nine winters spent in California, has been his home.

No children were born to this union. A little four-year-old niece Mabel Bowman was taken to their home and given every attention that parental love could bestow.

He leaves a sister, Mrs. Jennie Martin and her two grandchildren, Cleo Winslow and Glen Martin, a brother, F. S. Merriau a sister-in-law, Mrs. Josie Bowman, four nephews. Melvin and Paul Merriau, Lester and Francis Bowman and two nieces, Bessie Bowman and Marjorie Keller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and niece. Mrs. Mabel Bowman-Miller.
