Waukon - Shirley Barthell, 85, died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Center following a long illness.

Surviving are two daughters, Winifred Ferring of Lansing and Luella Hart of Cedar Rapids: one son, James of Bellingham, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Nierling of Washington, D.C.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial: Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Martin's.
