Former area resident Amy Buddenberg, 104, died October 6, 2003, in Mesa, Arizona. Amy Beatrice was born Oct. 29, 1898 near Ossian. She was the eldest of eleven children of John and Anna (Lotvedt) Moen and grew up in Bluffton, Iowa. She married Harvey E. Buddenberg on Sept. 1, 1920. They were the parents of three children: Ronald, Margret and Audrey. They farmed in the Castalia, Luana and Postville area until moving to Arizona in 1958. Although nearly blind and with difficulty hearing, Amy remained alert and active, always concerned for family and friends. She participated in her church circle and a Salvation Army service group well into her 90s. She had been a nursing home resident for the past 15 months. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, her son Ronald, daughter-in-law Joan, two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her daughters Margret (Robert) Kelson, Grand Prairie, TX; Audrey (Herb) Suer, Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA; daughter-in-law Sybil Buddenberg, Redmond, OR; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters: Agnes Ginapp of Decorah, Jean Colburn of Paulsbo, WA; Angie (Roger) Bacon of Mable, MN, and Marcie (Jim) Opfer, Waukon. Also two brothers, Leo (Thelma) Moen, Decorah, and Walter (Nina) Moen, Henderson, NV, and number of nieces and nephews.
Burial was at Green Acres Cemetery, Scottsdale, Arizona.©Waukon Standard 2003
