OBITUARY
PAUL WILLMAN
Was born in Engen, Baden, Germany, Jan. 9, 1830, and died at his house in Postville, Iowa at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, 1907, aged 77 years, 10 months and 18 days, death resulting from an affection (sic) of the liver. He came to America with his father in 1854 and settled on a farm near Garnavillo. Nov. 5, 1858, he was married to Mrs. Caroline Wegner, who died March 10, 1872. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters, all of whom are living.
June 25, 1872, he was again married to Miss Mary Krei, who survives him. To this union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters, of which all are living save two sons and one daughter who died in infancy.
By occupation Mr. Willman was a farmer, which vocation he followed until nine years ago, when he moved to Postville.
For more than thirty-five years past he has been a continuous sufferer from one affliction, bearing with little complaint a burden that incessantly twinged his body with pain and slowly sapped the vitality from a once rugged frame.
Throughout a life that spanned more than the allotted “three score years and ten” he has ever been an honest, upright, industrious and conscientious man; a good citizen, kind husband, indulgent father and firm friend, who has left to his family that more to be prized than great riches—a good name.
His latest illness began about a month ago, and it was evident from the first what the outcome must be. The children gathered home to minister to his every want and be with him during the closing hours. And just at eventide of a November day, with this soul at peace with God, one of the kindliest of men passed peacefully away.
He is survived by his wife, seven daughters and seven sons, four sisters and two brothers.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30th at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. R. Kuehne conducting the service in German and English. Interment in the Postville cemetery. Those present from abroad were: – Mr. and Mrs. George Wegner and John Willman, of Utica, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krei, of Concord, Neb.; John Krei, of Wayne, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grevy, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. John Phelan, Miss Mary Willman and Miss Bertha Willman, of Mason City; Henry Willman, of Spirit Lake; Mrs. Elizabeth Bur, Joseph Bur and Joseph Willman, of Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. John Hammond and Mrs. Ellen Kister, of Monona.
