DEATH.--Much sympathy has been felt by all old neighbors and friends here who have been aware of the illness of Mr. H. Niemeyer, of Elkader, said illness extending over a period of several months.

He removed with his family to Elkader last May, since which time he has been ailing. It is our painful duty to announce the death of Mr. Niemeyer, his illness terminating fatally on Tuesday at 1:30 o'clock. His age was 50 years.

Mr. Niemeyer's store was burned soon after he went to Elkader, and he had begun erection of a new building which was almost completed when death cut short his labors. He was a man of sterling integrity, scrupulously honest, and possessed the friendship and esteem of all.

Deceased came to Lansing in 1865. He leaves a wife and ten children to mourn the loss of a good and kind husband and father. Old neighbors and friends in Lansing mourn his death most sincerely. Bright's disease was the cause of death.

From the Elkader Register we glean the following facts:
Mr. Niemeyer was born in the village of Enisbueren, Germany, in 1841, consequently he was 50 years of age at the time of his death. He resided in Germany until 1865 when he came to the United States, settling in Lansing, Ia., where he engaged in the mercantile business. He remained in business at Lansing, until May, 1890, when he removed to this place, and here followed his former occupation of merchant. During his twenty-six years residence in Iowa he has always been known as an honest, straight-forward business man, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

At Lansing he was for several years a member of the city council, and where-ever located he devoted much energy towards advancing the business interest of a community. He was a public spirited man, and his death will be deeply mourned by these of our citizens who were acquainted with him.

A wife and ten children are left to mourn the death of a loving husband and indulgent father. They will have the sympathy of our people in their affliction.

The funeral will take place to-day from the Catholic church.
