Contributor: Connie Ellis (Dresser Family researcher)Margaret Eunice Eaton, daughter of Wells and Mary (Wood) Eaton, was born on a farm near Bethel, Allamakee County, Iowa on March 23, 1857 and passed away at her home in Postville, Iowa on Monday July 2, 1934 at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 9 days. On January 6, 1878 she was united in marriage to John S. Dresser who preceded her in death on March 3, 1922. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters: Royal Burl Dresser, who died at the age of 4 years; Mrs. Robert Hecker of Postville, Miss Ina May Dresser of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Howard Conrow of Waterloo, Iowa; and Lawrence Dresser who lives on the family farm on the edge of Postville which had been Mrs. Dresser's home for thirty-eight years. In 1930 she moved into Postville.
For a time before her marriage she was a successful teacher in the public schools of Allamakee County. In her early life she became a member of the Bethel United Brethren Church and after her marriage establishing the new home near Postville, joined the Methodist Church, later transferring her membership to the Community Presbyterian Church of which she was a faithful and esteemed member. She was also a member of the women's Sunday School Class, and whenever her health would permit, delighted in Christian Service for the Master. She was a member of the Eastern Star Number 238.
In addition to her immediate family, Mrs. Dresser is survived by four grandchildren; two brothers, G.E. Eaton of Long Beach, California and F.L. Eaton of Bellflower, California; and three sisters, Mrs. Nahum Howe of Surprise, Nebraska; Mrs. Henry S. Harris of Puente, California, and Mrs. George Waters of Postville. She leaves a host of relatives and friends who are left to mourn her passing. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery with Rev. R.F. Galloway officiating.
NOTE: Margaret Eunice (Eaton) Dresser was the sixth child of eleven Eaton children:
