MRS. E. T. HENDERSON DIES IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

Alice E. Hartley-Henderson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hartley, was born March 27, 1855, at Dorchester, Iowa. She passed away on January 1, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Helen B. Handley, in San Diego, Calif., at the age of 75 years, nine months and 4 days.
She was united in marriage to Edwin T. Henderson of Henderson Prairie, at Postville, on March 17, 1874. To this union were born seven children, four of whom, with the husband and eleven grandchildren survive her; three sons, Leonard James, Raymond Hartley and Wilfred Garfield, having gone on before. The surviving children are Charles F. of Los Angeles, Helen B. Handley of San Diego, Hartley E. of Escondido and Leona A. Zabel of Eagle Rock, all in California. She also leaves one sister, Matilda H. Bulman of Dorchester, and one brother, James W. of Waukon, all of whom will feel a great loss in her passing on for she was deeply loved by all who knew her.
About 1900 she left Postville, going to Los Angeles, Calif., with her two oldest sons and youngest daughter, thinking it might be a benefit to their health. A year later they moved to the Imperial Valley, living there for twenty-one years and where the rest of the family joined them. Eight years ago she joined her daughter in Eagle Rock and since then has spent her time with her two daughters, her failing health causing her to become almost an invalid.
She lived an earnest and faithful christian life from early girlhood, and her devotion to her savior was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she was fully prepared to enter he heavenly home and join the loved ones gone before. Although her loss is keenly felt by those left behind, that loss is only her gain.
She was laid to rest beside her son Raymond in a beautiful masoleum (sic) in Greenwood cemetery at San Diego, California.
