Waukon, Ia. - John Tanger (sic), 44, owner of a large farm, 13 miles northwest of Waukon, ended his life by drinking poison in a Waukon tavern Wednesday afternoon. He had been in ill health, it was said.

According to officials, Tangen accompanied Elmer Ehde into a tavern. Tangen drank a bottle of cocoa cola. Later he went into the rest room. Coming out he handed Ehde a vial, labeled "Strychnine," saying "I have just taken this," then he collapsed.

Tangen was rushed to the hospital where he died an hour later.

He was born on a farm near Waukon, Jan 28, 1900, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tangen. He is survived by wife and four children, Gordon, Mary, Jeanette and John; four sisters, Mrs. Alma Ellingson, Mrs. Nels Ophein, Mrs. Edgar Gavle and Mrs. Edgar Nelson.

There was no inquest. The body is at the Martin Funeral Home, but no funeral arrangements have been made.

Waukon, Ia. - Funeral services for John Tangen, 44, who died in the Waukon Hospital Wednesday afternoon, were held Saturday afternoon from the Martin Brothers funeral Parlors to the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, Hanover township. the Rev. William Hexom officiated. Burial was in the nearby cemetery.

Mr. Tangen is survived by his wife, four small children, his aged parents, and four sisters, all living in the Big Canoe vicinity.
