Evelyn Palmer, 91, of Monona, died on Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday, May 20 at Rossville Presbyterian Church in Rossville with Rev. Larry Gander officiating. Interment was in IOOF cemetery, Rossville. Martin Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Florence Evelyn Klees Palmer was born on August 30, 1910, in Chokio, MN, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Newcomb) Klees. She attended elementary schools in Brownsville, Lansing, Waukon, and Waterville.
On January 9, 1929, she married Emmett Palmer in Waukon. They farmed together for many years in the Waterville area. Evelyn was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church and the ladies aid. She was also a member of Golden Girls Club and Waterville Senior Citizens and volunteered for the Waterville School and Makee Manor. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards, dancing, music, and gardening,
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Emmett; two sisters, Goldie Rotzine and Helen Keepers; and two brothers, Ralph and Kenneth Klees. Survivors include two sons, Norbert (Nola) of Waukon and Robert (Pat) of Berrien Springs, MI; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Honorary casketbearers are Paul, Ronald, Bob, David, Jacob, and Justin Palmer, Jane, Ben, and Mike Rausch. Casketbearers are Roger Keepers, Rita Layher, John and Pat Love, and Mervin and Jim Klees.
