Contributor: Connie Ellis (Schlitter researcher)Alice Palas, 85, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Farmersburg, Iowa, died October 5, 2012 at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, Dubuque, Iowa. Alice was born December 13, 1928 on the family farm in Linton Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to William and Laura (Hensel) Schlitter. She attended the Figgie Country School in Allamakee County through the eighth grade. Alice was united in marriage to Valdean Palas on June 15, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Alice was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed cooking and was very good at it. She had many friends and loved spending time with them.
Alice is survived by a sister, Adeline McFarlane of Madison, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews in addition to her "grandchildren" Jason and Katie Plozel.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Howard, Dayton, Harvey, Alfred, and Robert Schlitter; two sisters, Verna Chalders and Florence Plozel; five half brothers, Fred, Herb, Clarence, Floyd, and Lester and one half-sister, Elsie Kutzbach.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona, Iowa. The service was officiated by her nephew, Rev. Dean Schlitter. Inurnment was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona, Iowa following the service.
