Last Wednesday morning, Oct. 18, at 8:am occurred the death of Patrick Garin, whom we believe was the oldest citizen in these parts, being about 98 years of age.
He was born in County Limerick, Ireland, & came to America in his young days, first settling in Kentucky, then going to western Iowa but finally returning to Taylor township & locating on the farm where he died. He was married in 1849 to Mary Dwyer & to them were born 7 children. Mrs. M. Walsh, Katie, Maggie & Tom at this place, Joe & Will of Minneapolis & Mrs. M. Burns deceased. He was a God fearing man & died fortified by all the holy rites of the Catholic faith. He lived a good peaceable life, & was well liked by all who knew him. He was buried Friday after a Requiem Mass by Rev. Sheehan at Paint Rock, beside the grave of his wife who died seven years ago. Pallbearers were T.J. & J.H. O'Neill, J.H. McCarthy, John Heffern, W.H. Collins & B.J. Finnegan. His sons & daughters wish to express their thanks to the kind friends & neighbors who assisted them during their father's sickness & death.-source: Allamakee Journal, Lansing, Oct. 25, 1911
