Elgin Echo, Thur., 10 Dec. 1903. From the Waukon Republican, undated.

An old resident of Allamakee county, Henry Lippe, residing about a mile east of Lycurgus, committed suicide last Saturday afternoon. He was missed by the family toward evening and search was instituted for him and at last found him in his carpenters shop with a bullet hole in his forehead. There was method in his violence for when found a rifle was discovered fastened to his work bench pointing towards him while seated in a chair provided for the purpose, and the fire arm was discharged by a rod a little longer than the rifle at the point of which was fastened a bent nail with which the trigger was pulled. The ball went crashing through his brains and lodged in the back of his skull. When found he was still sitting in a practical upright position with his head on his shoulder.- Waukon Republican.

Shoots Himself With Rifle

Lansing Mirror News reached this city early Saturday afternoon of the death by siucide{sp} of Henry Lippe, residing some nine miles west of Lansing on the road to Waukon. He had been to Lansing the day before —Friday— and during his stay had his son purchase a large bore rifle. Saturday morning he took the weapon to an adjoining shed and proping{sp} it on a barrel touched off the trigger with his cane, the ball entering his forehead and killing him instantly.

It is thought that he was insane, as indications point conclusively to a mental derangement.

Deceased was well known here. He was a man well along in the sixties and was a native of Germany. He leaves a wife and a family of eight children.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in the Lycurgus cemetery and was born in 1829.
