DEATH OF FORMER NEW ALBIN MAN

The many friends of Dr. Sylvester Welsh were grieved to learn of his death which occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis., Monday, Nov. 26, 1945, following a several months illness. Death was due to a complication of diseases.

Deceased was born in Houston County, Minn., Aug. 9, 1901 and was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Welsh, moving with his parents to New Albin in the year 1917, making his home here until the year of 1921. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and was formerly a member of the staff of St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse, Wis., being associated with Drs. Bannen, Evans and McGarty and was one of the most brilliant doctors on the staff at St. Francis. He later practiced at Prairie du Chien, Wis., and during his practice at the latter place he entered the military service in 1941 and served as a Captain in the military Medical Corps. After leaving the military service he practiced at Waukesha, Wis., up until the time of his illness.

Dr. Welsh was united in marriage to Miss Eleanor LaVaque Oct. 28th, 1933 at La Crosse, Wis., who with three children, Joseph L., Mary E. and William mourn the loss of a loving and devoted husband and father. He is also survived by two brothers, Leo of St. Paul, Minn., and Earl of New Albin, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. J.F. VanCura, Rockford, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Celia and one brother, William.

"Sid" Welsh as he was known to all his many friends, was a very likeable young man and his death caused a wave of sorrow to spread over his home community. He was an ardent member of the Catholic Church and died fortified with the divine influence of its extreme rights and had no fear of death and meeting his Maker.

Among fraternities to which deceased belonged were Knights of Columbus and Elks.

Funeral services were held last Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Lawrence Hayes, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery west of town. Casket bearers were E.J. Meyer, Albert Fruechte, Peter A. Whalen, Dr. F.W. Ernst, Frank Morgan and Edward Middendorf.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Galligan, Mr. Paul Weigel, Mr. Charles Hoeschler, Mr. Tim Welsh, Mrs. Eva Blozen, Mr. Joe Murphy, La Corsse, Wis.; Miss Mae Murphy, Mrs. Lena Carroll, of Caledonia, Minn.; Misses Josie and Bridget Hurley, Minneapolis, Minn.; three Sisters, St. Francis Hospital, Dr. W.E. Bannen, Dr. M.A. McGarty, Dr. Dean Smith, La Crosse, Wis.; Dr. John Thornton, Lansing; Dr. and Mrs. Roy Wheat, Sherman Hart, Mrs. Dan Regan and son Daniel, Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Casey, Hokah, Minn.; Ben Bunge, Herbert Deters and Herman Fruechte of Eitzen, Minn.; also numerous friends from neighboring towns and Prairie du Chien, Wis.
