David Cooper
David R. Cooper, 77, of Bronson, FL, formerly of Lansing, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in Williston, FL after a short illness. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 9 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lansing, with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.
David was born October 12, 1935 in Lansing to Edwin and Muriel (Steiber) Cooper. He was baptized April 12, 1936, graduated from Lansing High School in 1953, and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956.
March 12, 1966, David and Jennifer Boardman were married; two children were born to this union. They later divorced. February 11, 2000, he married Aldah Lorene Gavigan.
David’s life work was in road construction operating heavy equipment for Hoffman Construction. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Lansing, VFW Post 5625 of Chiefland, FL, Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 4194 of Cedar Kay, FL, Loyal Order of Moose 325 of Sawanee River, FL, Amvets Post 88 of Bronson, FL, Mississippi Valley Sportsmen’s Club, Engineer Local 139, Lansing Firemen, and DeSoto Rod and Gun Club.
He was a proud member of the NRA. He enjoyed gunsmithing and bullet making. David loved the Mississippi River, and in his younger years loved to hunt squirrels. David was very proud of his children and cherished the time they had together.
Survivors include his wife, Aldah Lorene of Bronson, FL; his son, David Reed Cooper, Jr. (Joni Clausen) of Lynxville, WI; his daughter, Lyssa (Dennis) Eiden of New Bavaria, OH; a grandson, Luke Eiden of New Bavaria, OH; a granddaughter, Lyssa Rebecca Cooper of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Jean Ann (Doc) Weymiller of Harpers Ferry, and Lynn (Tom) Thomson and Susan (Doug) Clark, both of Waukon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
