Gregory M. Schulte, 82, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services were held Friday, August 9 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Mark Reasoner, with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Gregory Matthew was born September 25, 1930 in Dorchester, the son of John and Ella (Conner) Schulte. He married Jean Ann Fahey February 27, 1954 in Waukon. Greg worked as a farmer and postal clerk, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Greg enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and watching classic Western television shows. He never spoke a bad word about anyone, never complained about anything, and always had a great sense of humor. The family is happy to know that, according to his favorite Willie Nelson song, he is “On the Road Again.”
Greg is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean; eight children, Cathy (Jim) Lash of Thermopolis, WY, Kevin (Beth) of Cedar Rapids, Jack (Debbie) of Grinnell, Duane (Sherry) of Cedar Rapids, Kary (Kathleen) of Des Moines, and Darrel (Connie), Christy (Nate) Pruett, and Regina (Jason) Klein, all of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Matt, Mark, Jackson, Palmer, Sadie, Reggie, Bryce, Quinn, Hope, Mary Kate, Annie, Michael, Zach, Lindsey, Jenna, Cole, Audrey, Christian, Jack and Riley; one great-grandchild, Conner; two brothers, Norbert (Rita) of New Albin and Lloyd (Ruth Ann) of Waukon; one sister, Jeanette McCormick of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Reggie; two brothers, John and Cletus; three sisters, infant Margaret Schulte, Marge Tierney and Angela Reagan.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to benefit St. Jude and St. Patrick Catholic Churches and Xavier High School.
