Mrs. A. D. Bender died at Waukon, Oct. 23. For many years she lived at Forest Mills. She was 54 years old. Burial at Smithfield cemetery.

Waukon, Iowa, Oct. 30 - Lydia Louise Smith was born in Allamakee county, Iowa, Dec. 8th, 1863, and died Oct. 23. She was the daughter of Robert and Clarissa Smith, now deceased. She spent her life in this county.

She was united in marriage with Albert D. Bender January 12, 1882. Two [sic] them were born four children, two of whom survive.

On April 24th, 1915, the husband passed suddenly away. Besides the two children, one brother, Warren Smith, of Armstrong Iowa, and Miss Olga Hanson, who has been her close companion and friend and was treated as a daughter, are left to mourn.

Funeral services were held at the residence October 26th, conducted by Rev. Van Nice, and burial took place at the Smithfield cemetery, where her loved ones rest.
