Walter Christofferson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Christofferson, was born in Esdsvold, Norway, July 14, 1860, immigrating to America with his father in the fall of 1873, locating in Post township and making Allamakee and Clayton counties his home the rest of his life.

March 14, 1889, he was united in marriage to Mary Olson. To this union were born twelve children, all of whom are living- Mrs. Clara Bente, Mrs. Anna Bente, both of Elkader; Henry of Monona; Elmer, Elbe, Louis, William, Velma, Herman, Alice, Harvey and Leonard, all at home. Also two grandchildren, Marie and Glenn Bente. These together with the mother mourn the departure of a kind husband and father.

He was ailing in health for several years and has been a constant sufferer for the past five months. He died at his home, October 7, 1922, at the age of 62 years, two months and 23 days.

His parents, brothers and sisters all preceded him in death.

Walter was widely known as an honest, conscientious, upright and industrious man, a good neighbor, friend and citizen, and the many friends gained during a long residence in this locality will sincerely sympathize with the bereaved family.
