Postville Herald, Friday, 6 December 1918.

Tom French was found Saturday morning by Walter Huffy about 7 o'clock in an unconscious condition, lying on a load of straw. He had been at his brother's late Friday afternoon and was returning home and must have been taken suddenly ill, the team stopped in the road and stood there all night. Mr. French was in a serious condition and his limbs were badly frozen. He was taken to his brother's, where a doctor was called and everything possible done, but he passed away on Sunday morning. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey French of Postville. He had been living alone in a shack on the John Lydon farm for several years past.
