Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Floyd Ferris
Funeral services for Mrs. Floyd Ferris were held at the Federated Church, Lansing, Saturday afternoon at two o’clock with Rev. Calvin Willemssen officiating. She passed away last Wednesday afternoon at a La Crosse hospital following a few months illness and in the spring had undergone surgery at a Rochester Minn., hospital.
As Blanche Edna Thompson she was born at Lansing Dec. 9th 1898, a daughter of the late Emma Aschbacher and Frank Thompson. Following her education and graduation from Lansing high school, on Sept. 11th 1917 she was married to Mr. Floyd Ferris at Lansing. They made their home for many years at Burr Oak in Winneshiek county and at Church town where he served as a buttermaker and returned to Lansing more than fifteen years ago.
They were parents of one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Knockel of Clinton, who with her father mourns the lost of a loving wife and mother. Other immediate survivors include her aged father, Frank Thompson, her sisters, Mrs. Harold Gaunitz, Lansing and Mrs. Walter Miller, Crete, Ill., and her only brother, Willard “Jess” Thompson, of Lincoln, Nebr.
Mrs. Ferris was widely known throughout Allamakee county where she had done practical nursing for about the past fifteen years and being very efficient her services were always in demand. The remains reposed at the Schneider Funeral Home and the many friends who called to pay their last respects to a departed friend gave mute evidence of the high esteem in which she was held.
Special vocal numbers were sung by George Aschom with Miss Evelyn Lenz as accompanist at the church services and Rev. Calvin Willemssen officiated at the graveside in Oak Hill cemetery where interment was made. Casket bearers were Earnest Gaunitz, Carl Hurm, Clifford Gruber, Carl Wagner, Robert Guider and George Aschom.
Among the out of county relatives and friends attending the last rites were: the Dr. Walter Miller, family of Crete, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Knockle, Clinton; the Willard Thompson family, Lincoln, Nebr.: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ferris, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Padden, Mr. Dan Ferris, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hager, Castalia; Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Ferris, St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ferris, Algona; Howard Ferris, Clear lake; Mrs. Jennie Bakewell and daughter Elsie, Hopkins, Minn.; Mrs. Rose Severson, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Brayton Whitney, Burr Oak.
