Daniel Gramlich
Daniel Emil Gramlich, 77, of Waukon, died June 14, 1990, at Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Funeral services were June 18 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery, with military graveside rites.
Pallbearers were David Kirkeby, Dan Kirkeby, Tim Lough, Bill Lough, Tony Krambeer, Alex Krambeer, Rick Gramlich and Jeff Gramlich. Honorary pallbearers were Terence Peyton, Joe Curtin, Bill Farley and Terry Grady.
Daniel Gramlich was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Allamakee County near Lansing Ridge on his parent's farm, the son of George and Romina Beighle Gramlich. He attended the "Rock School," a rural school near Lansing Ridge. He served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps during World War II (April of 1942 to October 1945), and was stationed in Iran. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church at Waukon. He had been employed as a rock-crush operator and truck driver for Cooney Construction in Waukon for 27 years.
He married the former Ella Mae Pratt Dec. 24, 1941, at First Presbyterian Church parsonage, Waukon. He had been a lifetime Allamakee county resident.
He is survived by his wife Ella Mae; four children, Gerald Gramlich of Waukon, Robert Gramlich of Lansing, Mrs. Kenneth (Gloria) Lough of Waukon, and Mrs. Dennis (Margaret) Krambeer of Decorah; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Irvin Gramlich of Moorehead, Minn.; and three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Super of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Alice Murphy of Janesville, Wis., and Mrs. Selma Larson of Waukon.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Linda Kirkeby on March 17, 1989; his brothers William, Elmer, Robert, Frank, Henry, Julius and Emil; and one sister, Cora Jostand.
He loved to garden, and enjoyed playing cards, working on cars and hunting. After his retirement, he also did lawn mowing for people.
Martin's Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of the arrangements.
