Rev. F. B. Steele, former assistant at St. Patrick's church, passed away Saturday at 9:40 p.m. at Mercy hospital, following an illness of ten days. The death of this beloved young priest has cast a shadow over the entire community and in the hearts of those who knew him best. Since coming to this city as the assistant pastor at St. Patrick's church, he has endeared himself not only to the parishioners of that parish, but to many other persons in the city, irrespective of creed or denomination, by his faithfulness to duty, efficiency, kindness, and consideration and generosity to his fellow men. Especially did Father Steele enjoy a wide circle of friends among the young people of Cedar Rapids, with whom he loved to associate.

Father Steele was born at Postville, Iowa, June 12, 1885, and it was there that he pursued his primary studies, later obtaining his high school and college education at Dubuque College, formerly St. Joseph's College. Following his graduation from that institution he entered St. Paul's theological seminary at St. Paul, Minn., being ordained on June 10, 1915, by the late Archbishop Ireland. Father Steele's first appointment was at St. Patrick's church, this city, where he remained for four years, leaving last July to fill the pastorate of the Catholic church at Lawler, at the same time Father Drumm was consecrated Bishop of Des Moines.

Surviving him is a father, Joseph Steele, of Postville; six brothers, Frank of Marengo, Joseph of Monona, John of Nashua, James and Henry of Postville, and Dan of Waukon; also two sisters, Mrs. F. G. Blaser of Dubuque and Mrs. A. G. (looks like Kana/Kane/Kano) of Waterloo. His mother died six years ago.

By request of Father Steele, the funeral was held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception church, a solemn high requiem mass being celebrated by Father H. N. Manternach as celebrant, assisted by two classmates, Rev. John Theobald of St. Raphael's cathedral, as deacon, and Rev. John DeMuth of St. Mary's church, Marshalltown, as sub-deacon. Bishop Drumm of Des Moines delivered the sermon. Interment at Mt. Calvary cemetery.- Cedar Rapids Evening Times.
