Postville Review, Sat., 21 Dec. 1889.
We clip the following account of the death of little Emma Gordon from the Clay Center Gazette-Democrat (Nebraska).
Diphtheria has entered another home in our midst and taken from it one of its brightest lights. Two weeks ago, Emma Gordon, oldest child of William Gordon and wife, was attacked with the dread disease. On Sunday last she appeared better but the apparent improvement was not permanent. She grew worse instead of better and on Tuesday noon, Nov. 26, 1889, the little life flickered out and the spirit returned to Him who "doeth all things well." Though only twelve years of age Emma manifested a womanly manner beyond her years. As teachers and schoolmates we can never forget her happy disposition and loving ways which made for her friends of everyone. Services, conducted by Rev. Williams, were held at the home, three miles west of town, Wednesday afternoon.
