Postville Herald, Fri., 17 Jan. 1919.
The people of this community were greatly saddened on Wednesday morning when they learned that Mrs. Ed McNeil had passed away at her home south of this city following an illness of only a week, from complications which developed after giving birth to a baby girl through a caesarian incision. It was not thought her condition was so serious until Tuesday when Dr. Hurley, of Chicago, was summoned in consultation with local physicians, arriving Wednesday morning, but she gradually grew worse until ten o'clock a.m. when she finally passed away.
Christina Steele was the eldest daughter of Joseph Steele of this city, and was born on the old farm, two miles east of Postville, on March 15, 18??, and lived there until her marriage to Ed McNeil on June 17, 1908. To them were born five children, namely, Margaret, who died at the age of one and a half years; Mary, Daniel, Joseph and the infant girl born last Wednesday night. Besides her father, husband and four little children she is survived by seven brothers and two sisters- Frank and Joe of Monona, John of Nashua, James and Henry of Postville, Father Fred B. Steele of Cedar Rapids, Daniel of Waukon, Margaret of Postville and Mrs. A. C. Kane of Waterloo.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at the Clermont Catholic church and burial in the Clermont cemetery.
The sorrowing husband and children who cannot now fully realize their great loss of a kind and loving mother, the father, sisters and brothers have the most heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this their sad hour of bereavement.
