DIED - At the home of his brother Charles, near Bethany, Missouri, August 22d, 1895, John William Russell.

Deceased was born in Rockford, Ill., June 22, 1845. Ten years later his parents moved to Postville, and here he made his home for twenty-five years. Fifteen years ago the family removed to Spirit Lake, from which place the body of the father was brought to Postville for burial, followed less than two years by the remains of the mother. For years John has suffered very much from ill health, centering in his brain and nervous system, making life for him a continuous tragedy of unrest and suffering. Last spring he moved his household goods to Miami, Indian Territory, where he built a house and bought property with the pioneer instinct which had always stirred his father. In a fit of depression and mental aberration, like that from which he had before suffered, he took his own life by cutting his own throat with a razor, at the home of his brother, cunningly eluding the care that had been over him. He is warmly remembered by the older residents of Postville for his genial, kindly spirit and high moral worth. His mother's death was sharply felt, and since that event life to him has seemed unbearable. His brother Charles was accompanied by his wife's brother, Mr. Keyes, the two returning Monday. While the body was buried immediate - on the arrival of the train Saturday, the funeral service was held Sunday morning in the Congregational church, when a worthy tribute to the memory of the deceased was spoken.
