Helen R. Hanson, age 83, formerly of 3604 Custer St. Manitowoc, died at Wisconsin Dells Nursing Home, Wisconsin Dells.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2000 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, and 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Ronald Reimer with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The 1920 Lansing Census shows James W. age 46, his wife Gertrude 37, daughters Leona 13, Rita 6, Helen 2 9/12, and Dorothy 1 month.

She was born March 13, 1917, in Church, Iowa, daughter of the late James and Gertrude Deeny O'Donnell. Helen was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Lansing, Iowa. On October 29, 1936, she married Lester Hanson, in Waukon, Iowa. Helen was raised in Iowa moving with her husband, Lester to Manitowoc in 1942. He preceded her in death, January 22, 1994. She was employed at the Manitowoc Engineering Company as a file clerk for 16 years, retiring in 1979. Helen was a volunteer at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and was also a quilter at the Manitowoc Senior Center.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Eisch, Mauston, Wis.; two sons, Lyle Hanson, Indianapolis, Ind., Ronald Hanson and his special friend Ruth Shimek, Manitowoc; ten grandchildren, Debra McKay, Patricia McKay, Suzette McKay and her fiancé, Tom Budzinski, James McKay and his special friend, Tiki O'Leary, all of Manitowoc, Michael McKay, Barneveld, Wis., Richard and Susan Hanson, Brian and Melissa Hanson, Justin Hanson, all of Indianapolis, Ind., Jason Hanson, Two Rivers, Matthew Hanson, Manitowoc; 13 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Virginia Knuppe, New Albin, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Pottratz, New Albin, Iowa. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona Trondle, Dorothy Knuppe and Rita Pottratz; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Hanson; a son-in-law, John McKay; two grandsons, Kevin and Robert Hanson; a great grandson, Andrew Riebe; three brothers-in-law, Floyd Knuppe, Harold Trondle and Themert Hanson and his wife Anna.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4-8 p.m. Sunday where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
