Note the conflict as to the surname of this child in the death notices. An explanation by Richard O'Brien follows.

Child Choked To Death.

A deplorable accident occurred this morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dell Brainard in Post Township, east of the Harvey Clark place, on Yellow River, at about nine o'clock. With a smaller child their little six year old daughter, Alice, was playing about the yard unobserved by their parents who were busy with the mornings work. It seems Alice had climbed into a boxelder tree and evidently slipped or lost her balance and fell, and in falling the fascinater she had wrapped about her head and neck caught on a limb of the tree and formed a noose about the neck and choking her to death, life being extinct when she was found in this position by the parents. The sincere sympathy of all is with the sorrowing family and relatives, whose heads are bowed with a grief almost to great to bear.

The little grand-daughter of Dell Brainard met an untimely death by strangulation last Friday. She was climbing in a tree and in some way was caught in such a manner that death resulted. The funeral services were held Sunday.
