Marvin Hyde, 60, of rural Lansing, died of a heart attack near his summer residence on East Bearskin Lake at Grand Marais, Minnesota on Saturday, June 30.

He was born October 31, 1923 at Huron, South Dakota, the son of Raymond and Hazel (Monigar) Hyde. He graduated from Huron High School, attended Huron College, and received his B.A. from Roosevelt College in Chicago. He received his M.A. at the University of South Dakota.

He taught in the Clinton, Waverly, New Albin and Eastern Allamakee Community School systems. He was superintendent of the Eastern Allamakee Community Schools from 1981 until June of 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Lansing; a sister, Lavon Olson of Huron, So. Dakota; two brothers, Ray Jr. of Louisville, Ky. and Robert of Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

He was a veteran of the European Theatre of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a member of the VFW of New Albin, KAABA Masonic Temple of Davenport and Evergreen Masonic Lodge of Lansing and the Iowa Association of School Administrators.

His body was cremated. Memorial services were held on Monday, July 9, at the Grace Methodist Church in New Albin. Pastor Tom Mattson officiated. Military rites were conducted by the New Albin V.F.W.
