Postville Review, Sat., 20 May 1882.
Levi Haines was born in New Jersey, on June _th, 18__. In 1810, with his parents, he moved to Champaign county, Ohio. Here he grew to years of maturity, and on May 10th, 1830, was married to Miss Abigail Rice. Ten children were given to this union, four of whom survive the father. In 1853, he with his family, moved to Grand Meadow township, Clayton County, Iowa. For the last eleven years he has been residing in this place. For twenty years he has been a sufferer from rheumatism. It crippled him severely, so that for the last eight years he has been obliged to use canes or crutches. He had been a powerful man, possessed of a strong constitution. It took long years of sickness and suffering to wear away his strength. A faithful tender wife cared for him through all the years of his decline. On Monday evening May 8th he breathed his last. On May 10th, the 52nd anniversary of their wedding, with many sympathizing friends around her, the widow laid his remains away in their last resting place.
