Postville Review, Sat., 22 Aug. 1896.

One of the most terrible accidents that has occurred in this section for a long time happened in Ludlow township on Friday afternoon last week, by which Julius Linglass, a Norwegian, 30 years of age, lost his life. He was attending the separator and went to make a step to the feed board and slipped or made a misstep and his foot went into the cylinder and was drawn into it clear to his body before the machine could be stopped. He was taken out but lived but 45 minutes. He was unmarried.

Terrible Accident
Waukon, Iowa, Aug 18 - Word was received here this morning of a terrible accident which befell one Julius Lyngaas, a young farmer residing west of town. He was on the grain stack assisting a threshing crew and in some way, apparently forgetting his surroundings, stepped into the machine and his right leg was crushed to a pulp before the engine could be stopped. He was taken to a house but bled to death before medical aid could be summoned.

~Dubuque Daily Herald, August 19, 1896
~Note: His correct surname spelling is Lyngaas. He is buried in the Glenwood Lutheran cemetery, Winneshiek co. Iowa. A photo of his gravestone has been posted on the Iowa Gravestone Photo Project. The inscription gives his dates as 02/14/1866 - 08/14/1896
