Henry Behrens was born 26 Jan. 1861 at Guttenberg, Iowa, and died 16 April 1906 at Postville, Iowa. He was confirmed at the Garnavillo church in 1878 and was married to Magdalena Hartman on 16 Feb. 1888. To this union two children were born, the eldest dying when quite young. There remain to mourn his loss, his wife, daughter Lena, his mother, five brothers and a sister.

Having acquired a competence tilling the soil he and his family retired from the farm near Castalia and moved to Postville, about two years ago. He was a worthy citizen, true friend and good neighbor, a just and upright man in every way.

The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church in Postville and was largely attended. Interment in Centennial cemetery, north of Castalia.
