Mrs. Mary Beneke was born in Germany on October 10, 1880, the daughter of Wilhelm and Catharine Westermann Meyer. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of two. The family settled in Winnebago Valley in Houston count, Minn. and in this community Mary spent the rest of her life.

On April 23, 1897, she was married to Wm. Beneke by Rev. L. Junker of Eitzen, Minn. The couple farmed near New Albin for many years. In 1945, they, with their son Martin, moved into town to make their home. Mr. Beneke passed away on March 24, 1958. After the death of Martin in December 1968, Mrs. Beneke made her home with her children. On February 11th of this year she entered the Caledonia Community Hospital where she passed away on Monday, April 6th, at 8:30 a.m. She reached the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 27 days.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin.

One daughter, Mrs. Ella Wiegrefe, also preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons, William of New Albin, Edwin, Louis, and Walter of Caledonia; six daughters, Mrs. Alma Kannenberg and Mrs. W.O. Wieland (Hanna) of Caledonia; Mrs. Henry Meyer (Frieda) of Eitzen; Mrs. Elmer Morey (Olga) of Spring Grove, Minn; Mrs. William Cordes (Hilda), and Mrs. Alvin Oitzman (Norma) of New Albin; also 36 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Martha Kubitz, one step-sister, Miss Helene Schmold, and a large number of other relatives.

Mrs. Beneke was a devoted mother and will be deeply missed by her family.
