Postville Review, Friday, 5 June 1903.

Marietta Ludinda Nichols was born in Elizabethtown, Essex Co., N.Y., March 31, 1845, and died at Kansas City, MO., May 26, 1903.

Being left an orphan when a child, her early life was spent in the home of her uncle, Isaac Finney, where she prepared herself for a teacher. After some years of teaching in New York she came to Postville in 1866, where she taught a short time and then went to Burr Oak, to which place her uncle had recently removed, where she was married to W. S. Roberts March 7, 1867. Three children were born to them - Mrs. Libbie Roberts Marguardt of Evanston, Ill., Eva, who died in 1875 at 2 years of age, and a son who died in early infancy.

She removed to Des Moines, in 1889, where she has since made her home. She united with the Congregational church of Postville in 1870 and with the Plymouth Congregational church of Des Moines in 1889, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was prominently identified with Women's club work in Des Moines and is remembered as a loving wife and mother, besides her intellectual qualities that made her presence acceptable and useful in church and home.

Her remains were brought to Postville and after a funeral service at the home of F. W. Roberts, where her many friends were permitted to take a last loving look at the deceased, was tenderly laid to rest beside her daughter.
