Postville Review, Fri., 4 August 1911.

Marietta Eaton was born near Postville, Allamakee Co., Iowa, Feb. 13, 1855, and died at her home in Ruthven, Iowa, July 21, 1911. She was united in marriage to Chas. B. Martin, Nov. 7, 1877, who with one son, Burton, and four daughters - Mrs. F. W. Stokes, Mrs. Andrew Neilsen, Misses Elsie and ?elia; and seven grandchildren; together with four brothers - W. W., G. E., F. L. and S. W. Eaton; and four sisters - Mrs. N. Howe, Mrs. Jno. Dresser, Mrs. H. S. Harris and Mrs. Geo. Waters, still survive to mourn her loss.

She was converted in early life and joined the United Brethren church at Bethel, later uniting with the Congregational church at Larchwood, Iowa, of which she remained a consistent member until her death and whenever health permitted was always found at her place of worship.

Her early married life was spent on a farm near Marble Rock, Iowa, and in the year 1881 she removed with her husband to Larchwood, Iowa, moving to Ruthven, Iowa, in 1910, where she passed away. She had been in failing health for about a year, but the last month had been spent at Des Moines where she had been receiving treatment which seemed to be very beneficial, and her loved ones felt much encouraged over the improvement in her condition. She arrived home from Des Moines, July 15th, expecting to return the following week for further treatment. She bravely battled againt the disease that she might still care for the comfort of the loved ones in the home. A beautiful life is gone, leaving behind its influence to help those with whom she has been associated to live better and nobler lives, and well may it be said, "her life was a blessing to all who knew her; her cheerfulness and kindness knew no bounds."

The funeral was held at Ruthven, Iowa, Sunday afternoon from the M.E. church, Rev. Walker speaking in impressive words of "The mother in the home." The casket was covered with many beautiful flowers which kind and sympathetic friends had brought or sent from near and far, telling in silent words the esteem in which she was held. Her body was tenderly laid to rest at Spencer, Iowa.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were - Mr. and Mrs. Burton Martin of Springfield, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Stokes of Hastings, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Neilsen of Chicago, ILL.; Miss Elsie Martin of Inwood, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Eaton of Panora, Iowa; G. E. Eaton, F. L. Eaton and son Norm, Mrs. Jno. Dresser and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Waters of Postville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Martin and Mrs. Fahey of Larchwood, Iowa; Chas. Bowman and Jas. Millex of Greene, Iowa; Mrs. Chas. Wertz of Marble Rock, Iowa.
