BYRON - Thelma A. Katke, 74, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. She was born June 1, 1929 in Rockford, the daughter of John and Hazel (Hurm) Hosier. A lifelong Byron/Oregon-area resident, she graduated from Oregon High School in 1947. Thelma married Robert "Bud" H. Katke on Aug. 11, 1947, in Rockford. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Viking Sewing Club in Byron. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Leola Crow; and an infant grandson. Survived by her husband, Robert H. "Bud" of Byron; children, Annette (Larry) Gillette of Rockford, Janice (Carl) Cates of Madisonville, Ky., Nancy (Albert) Gronberg of Stillman Valley, Pamela (James) Chauncey of Tecumseh, Mo, Robert C. (Karen) Katke of Dacula, Ga., Tamara Kaeding of Loves Park, William (Faith) Katke of Yorktown, Va., and Julie Heinkel of Byron; 32 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, John, Richard, Roger, Wayne and Donald Hosier; and many nieces and nephews. Christian Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron, with the Rev. Timothy Doherty officiating. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, with prayer service at 8, in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. Memorials Parkinson's Disease Foundation or American Heart Association.
