Week End Accident Claims Two Lives

The area traffic death toll for 1983 rose to five this past weekend as two rural Postville men died in a one car accident Sunday morning 3½ miles northwest of Postville.

Dead are Terry Lee Blietz, 25, and John William Bissell, 28, both of rural Postville.

According to a Winneshiek County Sheriff's report, the accident occurred sometime either Saturday night (Aug. 27) or early Sunday morning. The wreckage was not discovered until about 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

The Sheriff's report said that the car apparently went out of control, left the road, crossed a creek and struck a cement bridge abutment. Both men were thrown from the car.

Both Blietz and Bissell were taken to Winneshiek County Hospital in Decorah, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

An investigation into the accident continues by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's office and the Iowa Highway Patrol.

Services for John W. Bissell, Jr. were held Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1983 at St. paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Burial was in Postville Cemetery. Schutte's Funeral Service handled the arrangements.

John Bissell was born July 7, 1955 at Postville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bissell, Sr. He attended MFL High School at Monona and was employed at Norplex in Postville. He died Sunday, Aug. 28, 1983 in a traffic accident 3½ miles northwest of Postville.

He was married to Diane Snitker, Nov. 19, 1976 at Waukon. To this union were born 2 children.

He is survived by his wife; a son Jeremy; a daughter, Rory; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bissell of Monona; 3 brothers, Bradley of Monona; Jerry of Postville and Marty, stationed in West Germany; 4 sisters, Cindy Hertramph of Monticello, Wendy of Luana, and Kristy and Mary of Monona; and 2 grandparents, Elsie Bissell of Guttenberg and Ella Kurth of Monona.
