John Roffman (Johnny Smoker) died last Sunday afternoon from the effects of an accident a few days before. His son was reaping and the team became frightened and ran away. Mr. Roffman in endeavoring to stop them was thrown down and the reaper run over him breaking seven ribs and injuring him otherwise, which proved fatal.
Later: - We learn through one of J. Hugh's cream haulers, that Mr. Roffman was oiling the machine and the horses started on a whirl which run the cutting bar onto him, throwing him down. One of the guards stuck into his forehead and dragged him for some distance. It is thought he was doubled over while being...(The next two lines were missing.)

Note: John Roffman 1836 - 1884 is listed in the Woodmansee book as buried in the Smith cemetery.
