Bessie Blessin

Former Postville resident, Bessie (Roberts) Blessin, 104, of Atherton, Calif., died May 15, 1979 in Atherton. Cremation services were held in San Jose, Calif., and burial will be in the Postville Cemetery.

Bessie (Roberts) Blessin was born in Postville November 22, 1875, the daughter of Hall and Marie Roberts. She graduated from Grinnell College in 1896 and later taught in Chicago. She married Dr. Otto Blessin in 1903. To this union one daughter, Ruth, was born. Dr. Blessin died in 1919 and Bessie, her daughter and mother moved to Long Beach, Calif. In retirement, Bessie lived in Pasadena, Calif., and later in Atherton with her granddaughter, Jan Craig Gay.

She is survived by one grandchild, Mrs. Henry M. Gay of Menlo Park, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Roberts Templeton of Portland, Ore.; one nephew, Hall Roberts of Postville; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and son-in-law.
